Park yourself at Scissortail Park

By Nate Fisher / Lifestyle / March 1, 2022

Believe it or not, spring is beginning to spring forth and help spring us from the winter doldrums. A great place to experience a little personal rebirth is OKC’s Scissortail Park.

First, you can join the park’s Walking Club to take an easy hour-long morning stroll on Wednesdays starting March 24. Meet up at the Scissortail Boathouse at 9 a.m. and join the group. It’s free, furry four-legged companions are welcome (as long as they’re on leashes) and you can find your own pace. Check the park’s calendar for sign up links!

Second, replace some of the calories you may have burned on your walk by taking advantage of some of the food offerings in the park. In addition to a rotating calendar of visiting food trucks, the Spark café is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Offering “burgers, bites and cold delights,” Spark is run by the same folks behind The Jones Assembly (Chamber member The Social Order hospitality group), so you know it’s going to be a palate pleaser. The beer menu likewise offers an array of local favorites, including Chamber member COOP Ale Works’ perennial favorite west-coast IPA F5, and Chamber member Lively Beerworks’ Rainbow Sprinkles, a vanilla cream ale brewed just for Spark. In addition, the Park’s “The Perch” café at Scissortail Boathouse is scheduled to open this month as well, so stay tuned for that.

Third, don’t forget that the Scissortail Park you already know and love is just one section of what will eventually encompass 70 acres of awesomeness! Hop over the Skydance Bridge to check the construction status of the lower park, scheduled to open this fall.

Finally, you don’t even really need a reason to visit the park. It’s open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the Children’s Playground open dawn to dusk. Get out and explore one of OKC’s newest gems.
