Paseo Arts Exhibit

By Anna Mitchell / Lifestyle / February 20, 2024

Venture to the well-known Paseo Arts District and see the exhibit “Journey” by Filipino artist Carlos “Totong” Francisco II. The paintings are large scale, all from his career that focuses on the themes of growth and reflection. The exhibit is on display in Gallery I of the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center from Feb. 2-24.

Totong is an artist from Angono, Philippines. He has been painting since the age of 14 and paints a variety of things. His art background comes from his grandfather, Botong Francisco. Totong was a strong believer that art is a freedom and focuses on transitional and metaphysical themes. Totong uses methods of specialized sponge rollers on his canvas to make a cubist-looking painting.

The exhibit is intended to be a depiction of how art reflects the journey of life. The paintings consist of bright, cubist style, while visitors are encouraged to use their creative side and reflect on their own human experience. The paintings in the exhibit are split between Totong’s Nude Conversations and his Flight series of art. There are also several other individual paintings of his within the exhibit.

These paintings that are in this exhibit are from a personal and private collection of Dr. Oscar Castro, an endocrinologist from Lawton, Oklahoma. Dr. Castro has built a diverse collection of art from various artists around the globe. He intends for the use of his collection to be a reminder to anyone who can see the collection that art holds so much influence for us as individuals.
