Horse racing has a long-standing history with the state of Oklahoma, as Remington Park is set to enter its 35th season with thoroughbreds racing through December 15.
When the horse racing venue opened in 1988, it was the first of its kind in Oklahoma City. No one knew just how much of an impact Remington Park would have on Oklahoma City. Now known as the Horse Show Capital of the World, Oklahoma City attracts various owners, trainers, jockeys and breeders to the area.
When the racetrack first opened it was only meant for thoroughbreds, but quarter horses were added a year later.
Thoroughbred horses are meant to race longer distances, anywhere from half of a mile to a mile and a half.
During the races, guests are welcome to place bets on the races through either straight, basic or exotic wagers. The Remington Park website offers helpful information for beginners.
Special races are scheduled during the racing season including Oklahoma Derby Day on September 24, Oklahoma Classics on October 20 and the Springboard Mile on December 15.
Remington Park is located in the heart of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District, just off I-44, allowing easy access to other local amenities and activities in the OKC area.
Remington Park is also home to a 24-hour casino, various bars and restaurants, as well as space for events and festivals. Races are scheduled from Wednesday to Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. Admission and parking are always free at Remington Park.
