Red Earth FallFest returns to downtown Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, brace yourselves for a day filled with vibrant colors, rhythmic beats and the rich tapestry of indigenous culture. The Annual Red Earth FallFest is back, promising a day of celebration and connection set against the stunning backdrop of the Devon Lawn at Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. The event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 am to 5 pm, invites you to immerse yourself in a day of festivities, unity and fun.
Activities showcase talent, pride, craftsmanship
The heart of FallFest lies in its diverse lineup of events. At the core of the celebrations is the lively parade that will wind its way through the downtown streets showcasing the pride, beauty and heritage of Oklahoma's indigenous communities. Following the parade, the event will feature an Arts & Crafts market, a treasure trove of creativity showcasing the talent and craftsmanship of local artists. It’s the perfect opportunity to find unique, handmade pieces that capture the essence of Native American heritage.
Unveiling the spirit and splendor of Native American powwows
One of the highlights of the day is the Youth Powwow. If you’ve never seen one before, you’re in for a treat. A powwow is a traditional Native American gathering that involves various indigenous communities coming together to celebrate their cultures, traditions and heritage. Powwows often feature a variety of activities such as dancing, singing, drumming and storytelling.
During a powwow, participants wear traditional regalia, which includes colorful outfits adorned with beads, feathers and other ornaments reflecting their tribal heritage and personal symbolism. The event typically includes different styles of dances, each with its own unique steps and significance. Powwows are also an opportunity for indigenous people to reconnect with their roots, share cultural knowledge and pass down traditions to younger generations.
A Feast for the Senses and the Soul
As you immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere, don’t forget to treat your taste buds to the delectable offerings from various food trucks that will be present at the event. From savory delights to sweet treats, there’s something to satisfy every craving.
So, bring your lawn chairs, blankets and perhaps a picnic basket filled with your favorite snacks. Settle down on the lush green grass, bask in the cultural richness around you and indulge in the culinary delights – a recipe for a perfect day out with family and friends.
A celebration of unity and diversity
Red Earth Fallfest is the perfect way to celebrate Indigenous People's Day and revel in the spirit of community and togetherness in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.
