Revel in romance on Valentine’s Day

By Molly Fleming / Lifestyle / February 11, 2020

Whether you’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day with one person you love or a whole group of friends, the creative folks at Factory Obscura are hosting a Mixed Tape V-Day Bash, certain to shake up the typical dinner-out option. There will be live music, spoken word and movement artists, a limited edition beer in a commemorative pint glass from Factory Obscura’s Automobile Alley neighbors Prairie Artisan Ales, and a costume contest where you’re encouraged to dress like your favorite love song. To get your ticket or learn more about the event, check out factoryobscura.com or click here.

You can also hold hands or drink away your lovesick sorrows at the monthly Live on the Plaza event, where this month’s theme is, “LOVE on the Plaza.” So cute, right? If you haven’t been to the plaza, we have three things that you can find there that will convince you to go to this district: Pizza, pies, beers. The Plaza District even put together a Valentine’s Day gift guide if you need ideas.

Another gift idea – and one that comes with a huge heart – is a flower bouquet from “The Curbside Chronicle.” The Curbside is a monthly magazine sold by residents experiencing homelessness and is housed at The Homeless Alliance. During Valentine’s Day, the vendors sell flower bouquets (and they’re working on opening a full-time flower shop). When your purchase flowers from the vendors, you help them get on step closer to being off the streets. See where you can find the pop-up shops, which will start Thursday.

Starting Friday, one of Shakespeare’s most known tragedies, “Romeo & Juliet,” is brought to the stage by the Oklahoma City Ballet. Prepare to be swept away to Verona, Italy where two star-crossed lovers meet and ultimately share a destiny that alters everyone in its wake. Colorful and opulent, “Romeo & Juliet” will swell your heart with beautiful scenery, timeless music, and incredible dancing. Check show times and buy tickets at okcballet.org.

If you need other ideas for Valentine’s Day, our friends at the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau have put together a list of couple’s nights. Those CVB folks are thoughtful like that. Check out the list and see if you get any new ideas.
