Summer Night Print Series hopes to leave an impression on OKC

By Josh Vaughn / Lifestyle / July 8, 2019

Each year the ARTSPACE at Untitled holds their annual Steamroller Festival celebrating wood block prints created on a large scale.

Summer time in OKC is always buzzing with activity. Around nearly every corner there are fun and exciting opportunities to experience and engage in our vibrant cultural opportunities. For the ARTSPACE at Untitled, it is no different. In July alone, they are hosting art exhibitions, music concerts, community get-togethers and even throwing a birthday bash celebrating the memory and vision of their founder Joe Warriner. The ARTSPACE at Untitled not only offers opportunities to experience art and creativity but seeks to collaborate with the community to cultivate it. One of the main conduits they use to channel this process is through experiential hands-on learning in one of their various workshops.

Virginia Sitzes demonstrates various screenprinting techniques.

The focus of their summer workshops will be on various styles of printmaking. The Summer Night Print Series will give attendees an opportunity to better understand printmaking and how they can affordably simulate traditional printing techniques. These workshops are intentionally held on weeknights in hopes to reach people that cannot make it to their typical Saturday workshops. Things kick off Tuesday, July 23 with Screenprinting methods with Virginia Sitzes. Thursday, July 25th will cover monotype printing with instructor Laurence Reese. Emma Difani will teach drypoint etching on Tuesday, July 30th. The workshops will wrap up on Thursday, August 1 with a relief printing classes taught by ARTSPACE at Untitled’s very own education director, Alexa Goetzinger.

Emma Difani, here working on a woodblock, will be instructing the drypoint etching workshop.

“I am personally very excited about this series because I love educating artists about original prints - which are unfortunately devalued by their association with digital prints. Through our workshops, participants live the magic of pulling prints through and off the printing presses. It is amazing to watch people realize and understand that prints are not copies; they are truly works of art,“ said Goetzinger.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Summer Night Print Series workshops. No previous experience is required and supplies are provided with each registration.

No prior printmaking knowledge or skills are necessary. In fact, the workshops are intended to create awareness about printmaking as they are to engage existing printmakers. The instructors will take you through each step of the process and even allow you to get your hands dirty with some direct application of your newly found knowledge. Individual workshops cost $70 per person or bundled together, you can attend all four workshops for $250. All supplies will be provided for each class. You can find out more details and reserve your spot by visiting ARTSPACE Untitled website at www.1ne3.org.
