Support OKC's local film scene safely

By Nate Fisher / Lifestyle / January 15, 2021

One of the many things that is more difficult during any pandemic is going to the movies in the traditional way. If you're like me and you're the type that enjoys indie and/or foreign selections or perhaps more difficult-to-find titles, that's a real bummer, and you're probably missing participating in the local film scene and maybe even that communal experience that makes moviegoing so special. However, movie houses like Chamber members and friends Rodeo Cinema, the OKC Museum of Art's Noble Theater and Tower Theatre have made it possible to support our local film community in multiple COVID-safe ways.

First, Rodeo Cinema and the OKCMOA have both re-opened for live, in-person film-going, albeit with some changes designed to keep you away from the 'rona. Rodeo Cinema's COVID-safe guidelines include implementation of the National Association of Theater Owners' "CinemaSafe" policies and feature high-efficiency HVAC filtration, decreased capacity and increased distance between parties, increased time between screenings to allow for plenty of that good sanitization and disinfection activity, no late entry (get there at least 10 minutes early!), temperature checks for staff and more. Likewise, the Noble Theater at the OKCMOA has instituted limits of less than 25% capacity and many of the same precautions to keep you safe. Masks are required at both venues, so don't forget those, of course. Tip - you can purchase tickets online if you want to eliminate a potential point of contact and ensure a seat with those reduced capacities!

Second, Rodeo, OKCMOA and Tower Theatre are all offering "Virtual Screening Rooms" where you can purchase a film viewing and stream it in the accustomed comfort of your own domicile and with your own accompanying cuisine and drinks (but without that really good movie theater popcorn, amirite?). These Virtual Screening Rooms are a great way to support our local venues at the same time as exposing yourself to an even wider variety of titles.

Consider a night out (or in) at the movies and support OKC's film community!
