Take a trip to America’s past time at the First Americans Museum

Branded as “One Place, Many Nations,” the First Americans Museum presents the histories of 39 Native American nations that are now in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma City museum helps tell the stories of these individual indigenous nations, which are often seen as one inclusive culture.

An earthen mound greets you as you arrive at the facility; a tribute to mound-builder civilizations. An outdoor Festival Plaza serves as a home to powwows, stick-ball games, stomp dances, concerts and cultural festivals. The Hall of the People takes design elements from the Wichita Grasshouse, incorporating 10 columns, each of which represents 10 miles traveled daily by Native Tribes from their original homelands to the area known as Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The Remembrance Gate includes two inclining 40-foot walls, built from Mesquabuck stone, in alignment with the rising sun.

Back inside, the First Americans Museum features three distinct sections: The Tribal Nations Gallery, The Mezzanine Gallery, and the FAMily Discovery Center. Each section includes different exhibition and educational experiences that help highlight the impact of Indigenous people on the U.S.
