Undecorating Christmas: What to do with your tree

It’s been nearly two weeks since Christmas officially ended. If you’re ready to take down the decorations, there are a few options to dispose of your tree, whether natural or artificial.
If your family decorated a real tree, you can drop it off and allow OKC Parks to turn it into mulch until Jan. 15. All lights, ornaments, nails and stands must be removed from the tree before dropping it off. You can also pick up mulch from the processed trees until Jan. 15 – you just need to bring your shovel and bucket to carry it home.
Your natural tree can be dropped off, and mulch can be picked up from dawn until dusk in designated areas at:
- Will Rogers Park, 3600 Pat Murphy Drive
- Wheeler Park, 1120 S. Western Ave.
If you don’t want to haul your tree to the park or if your artificial tree has reached the end of its usefulness, the City of Oklahoma City’s bulky waste days coming up are the perfect way to easily get rid of it.
To see when your next bulky waste day is, visit okcutilities.com or okc.gov/mytrashday. For bulky waste set-out guidelines, visit okc.gov/trash. Just note, your tree must be on the curb no later than 6 a.m. on your designated day.
If you’re not ready to take down your tree just yet, the City of Oklahoma City has designated bulky waste days every month, so you can catch the next one in February.
