What to do this summer: Myriad Botanical Gardens edition

There is always something to do around Oklahoma City and the Myriad Botanical Gardens has plenty of activities to choose from this summer.

Each Wednesday, the SONIC Summer Movies series will be held on the Devon Lawn and Bandshell with pre-movie activities beginning at 7 p.m. and will feature local food trucks and vendors. The free movies are family friendly, so all ages are welcome. The next featured movie, “Puss in Boots,” will start at 9 p.m. and attendees will get to see a stage combat demonstration at 8 p.m.

The Gardens’ Summer Weekly Walkups provide daily entertainment 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for your child on the Children’s Garden Porch where they can experience a different activity based on the daily theme. Whether it’s Make-It Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Reading Wednesday, Pot-it-up Thursday or Find-It Friday, your child will have fun. After the activity, you can stay and play in the Thunder Fountain or purchase a ride on Mo’s carousel.

For those looking to continue their fitness journey, free yoga is offered 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays on the Devon Lawn and Bandshell. There are also free Zumba and Tai Chi classes offered during the week throughout the month of July.

The Dancing in the Gardens series will offer free country line dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. July 14 in the Seasonal Plaza on the east side of the park. It’s a great way to get outside, move your body and make new friends.

If you’d like to learn more about the plants growing around the outside grounds, you can take a guided garden tour with one of the horticulture staff. This free tour starts in the visitor lobby and is held at 1 p.m. every second Friday and 10 a.m. on the last Saturday. The next tour is Saturday, June 24.

The Gardens also offers workshops like the Salsa Container Garden session from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 6, which will teach attendees how to grow their own produce in a small space with just a few containers. The class is $35 for members or $40 for nonmembers.

The Crystal Bridge is always a must-visit destination, but please note it will be closed from July 10 through July 30 for construction.
