BKD Interns give back
Five interns, as well as three staff, participated in BKD CPAs & Advisors’ annual intern volunteer day benefiting local charities and providing opportunity for the future workforce to learn about key community issues. This year, BKD’s volunteer group participated in projects over two consecutive days.
They started out by volunteering with the Oklahoma Hall of Fame’s Summer Thursdays program, which provides theme-oriented story time, crafts and activities for kids. BKD helped facilitate those fun, educational projects and also toured HOF’s Gaylord-Pickens Museum.
That afternoon, the BKD group cleared out a couple flower beds, weeded and trimmed a few hedges surrounding City Care’s Pershing Center, a permanent housing community for those looking to transition out of homelessness. They also took a tour of the center.
Friday morning, they trimmed trees and shrubs and weeded a vacant lot alongside Upward Transitions headquarters, where the UT team provides case management and stabilizing resources to help meet basic social needs of Oklahoma City’s most vulnerable.
The BKD team spent Friday afternoon at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s volunteer center sorting and packing 980 lbs of saltine crackers and 10 pallets of light bulbs donated by a charitable partner to help create energy savings for those served by RFBO.
