Experience your own storefront through this retail incubator program

By Erick Perry / Member News / October 12, 2022

Citizens Bank of Edmond and the Independent Shopkeepers Association have partnered to present retailers with the opportunity to operate their own storefront in downtown Edmond. Applications for the incubator program are open through Oct. 17.

On Nov. 12, one lucky winner will open their own shop in front of the Citizens Bank of Edmond building on Broadway Avenue for six weeks. The winner will also receive desk space at the bank’s nearby co-working space, Vault 405.

Along with the six weeks of retail space that includes utilities and Wi-Fi for a $50 monthly fee, the winner will receive a first-year membership to the Independent Shopkeepers Association.

A jury will select a winner from entries based on the applicant’s experience, product selection, inventory and merchandising plan.

Applications consist of 14 questions. Sample questions can be found on the Independent Shopkeepers Association website.

Applicants may submit an existing shop looking to expand, or an online venture looking to establish a brick-and-mortar location, but all entries must be Oklahoma-owned businesses.

Oklahoma businesses involving the following are ineligible to participate in the program:

  • Dispensaries
  • Liquor stores
  • Food and beverage
  • Full-service restaurants
  • Political or election content
  • Explosive materials like fireworks
  • Adult entertainment products
  • Strong odors like candles

Once selected, the winner will be responsible for providing signage, staff and merchandise. The winner must also adhere to Citizens Bank of Edmond’s hours of operations and design specifications, as well as their outlined rules.
