Fields & Futures, OKCPS celebrate Lopez Foods Sports Complex at U.S. Grant High School

By Staff Reports / Member News / May 7, 2021

Fields & Futures and Oklahoma City Public Schools, with the support of Chamber member Lopez Foods and Wes Welker Foundation, joined U.S. Grant High School yesterday for an official groundbreaking of a new artificial turf baseball field, and the official ribbon cutting of the artificial turf softball field which was completed in 2020.

A larger community field celebration is being planned for late summer, as students return to school for the 2021-2022 school year. At that time, the Lopez Foods Sports Complex at U.S. Grant HS will be complete, marking the completion of field construction at all OKCPS south OKC middle schools and high schools.

Since the first campus renovation at Jefferson Middle School in 2012, Fields & Futures and OKCPS, with the continued generous support of donors and partners, has constructed and maintains more than 60 fields, courts and tracks across the district.

Believing if students find a team, they will find the classroom, the Fields & Futures mission is anchored around the belief if they play, they stay and if they stay, they graduate. Although building and maintaining OKCPS athletic facilities provides the critical infrastructure needed to inspire student participation in athletics, the bigger objective is to get students TO graduate! District data has shown that participation in sports provides young students the motivation needed to improve attendance and grades, while empowering them with the tools and resources needed to prepare for a productive and fulfilling life beyond high school.
