Help ‘Supply Our Schools’: Feed the Children seeks support from businesses across Oklahoma
Feed the Children is asking businesses throughout Oklahoma to sign up to gather school supplies for the nonprofit’s Teacher Store during its Supply Our Schools (S.O.S.) initiative.
“There is a great need for these supplies in classrooms across Oklahoma and this initiative will allow businesses to collect school supplies that will benefit students in their local community,” said Kevin Richardson, director of special markets at Feed the Children.
The average educator spends $500 per school year to provide students with the tools needed to succeed. However, Feed the Children helps ease the financial burden by supplying classroom supplies and books at no cost to educators in Title I schools through its Teacher Store. In fiscal year 2018, Feed the Children’s Oklahoma City Teacher Store hosted 297,467 visits from educators across the state.
“The Teacher Store is really important to my classroom. Where I teach is a poverty area, so all the things I get are things we’ll need…I have students that come without supplies, but by coming here I’m able to let those kids have supplies, not embarrass them, not make them feel left out,” said Kimberly, an educator in Oklahoma.
The supplies collected by area businesses will stay in the communities where they are gathered. Interested businesses are encouraged to sign up at feedthechildren.org/supplyourschools. Participating businesses will receive a Starter Kit filled with resources to help them get their promotional efforts off the ground. The campaign will run July 1 - July 31.
