Local concept Good Girl Chocolate opens at Penn Square Mall July 3

By Staff Reports / Member News / July 2, 2021

Good Girl Chocolate, an Oklahoma-born, plant-based chocolate brand, has announced an official grand opening on Saturday, July 3, in its first brick-and-mortar location at Penn Square Mall at 1901 NW Expressway (easiest accessible via the southeast entrance of the mall). By design, Good Girl Chocolate is naturally sweetened, vegan and paleo-friendly, free of gluten/dairy/soy and made without GMOs. Beginning this month, production of all Good Girl Chocolate, bean to bar, will be manufactured and shipped from the facilities on-site.

Good Girl Chocolate began in 2018 as an e-commerce chocolatier, catering to health-conscious consumers and chocolate lovers looking to not compromise smart choices for taste. Created by Dr. Tabatha Carr, ND while on a personal transformation and quest to live and love life, Good Girl Chocolate has grown from a singular mission to celebrating international reach as a leading vegan chocolate, with local and national accolades in its few years of operation. Good Girl Chocolate has participated in the Thunder Launchpad accelerator program and, outside of Oklahoma, Good Girl Chocolate has been featured in the GRAMMYs gifting suite and in select Oscar nominee gift bags, and was a 2020 grant recipient of Beyonce’s BeyGOOD Foundation.

“From day one with Good Girl Chocolate, my goal was to support and encourage healthy lifestyles and having a storefront in Penn Square Mall takes that dream to new heights,” said Carr. “With the accessibility, to continue to seek us out however or wherever is most convenient to their lifestyle of choice, it allows us to continue to meet people online or to meet them at the store. Of course if you stop in and see us, we’ll share a few tasters and some laughs. I just want people, especially women, to indulge in conscious chocolate, chocolate that you really don’t have to think twice about… but also, it’s just darn good chocolate!”

Dr. Tabatha Carr believes chocolate is a girl’s best friend. For years growing up in Oklahoma, Dr. Tabatha struggled with her weight and was just 16 years old when she was first prescribed blood pressure pills. After high school, and continuing to battle high blood pressure and blood sugar imbalances, Dr. Tabatha decided to not only focus on her diet and desire to contribute positive energy to her community, but through studies in naturopathy with a focus on women’s health and wellness, she created Good Girl Chocolate to thrive at the intersection of science, simplicity and flavor. From the beginning, Good Girl Chocolate has been two things: guilt-free and tasty.

Good Girl Chocolate is a plant-based chocolate that supports all healthy lifestyles. Flavors include Brownie Batter, Caramel Cake, Chocolate Fudge, Coconut Pecan Scotchie and 70% Dark Chocolate. Earlier this year, Coconut Pecan Scotchie was a finalist in the Confections category of the 2021 Good Food Awards, which highlights food crafters leading the way in quality, sustainability and social responsibility.

Dr. Tabatha was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a MBA in Health Administration, both from Oklahoma City University and currently resides in Yukon. Dr. Tabatha serves as the Director of Professional Development on the board of Oklahoma Women in Technology, volunteers with Positive Tomorrows, Baptist Children’s Home and Ronald McDonald House, and can be found public speaking or playing the piano for her church when not making or packaging chocolate.
