Promote OKC and win with OKC Social Squad

By David McCollum / Member News / March 26, 2019

Do you enjoy telling people about all of the great things that happen daily in Oklahoma City? Are you active on social media? If so, the OKC Social Squad is made for you.

“OKC Social Squad members are people who share the latest news and information like blog posts, events, contests, and more using social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter,” said Cynthia Reid, vice president, marketing and communications for the Greater OKC Chamber. “Members help to spread all of the great news about OKC to far more people than we could do by ourselves. That really helps when it comes to marketing Oklahoma City, attracting potential business and tourism.”

Becoming an OKC Social squad member is really easy.

Connect one of your networks using the buttons on the sign-up page (http://www.velocityokc.com/socialsquad) and we'll walk you through the rest of the process. You may connect as many of your social media accounts as you wish to use, but the more networks to which you connect, the more opportunities to earn points and be in the running to win a monthly prize.

OKC Social Squad members never have content posted to their social networks without being explicitly notified. Even if you choose to auto-post content, you have the option to opt-out of each post before it is shared.

You can share posts from "Posts to Share" item in the top menu bar or the "Share Now" area of the portal homepage once you are logged in. You will also occasionally receive an email when we have especially new and exciting content to share. Each email contains a status update and link to the content we're sharing with you. Once you press the click to share button, the status update will automatically post to the social networks you selected. You can also share and retweet our social posts from the Social Feed box of the portal homepage once you are logged in. You won’t get points for those, however.

You earn points by sharing content and generating traffic. The more people take action (like, retweet) on links shared through the system on approved social networks, the more points you rack up! Additionally, earn points for recruiting your friends to join the program!

You can also earn points by using keywords as you tweet or update your status. You can write these posts through your VeloCityOKC account under the "Earn More points" tab, or you can write them through your personal Twitter and Facebook accounts. You must use the current keyword at least once in order to earn points.

February's winners were Charity Avery, with 4,235 points (and 15 recruits)! She received a custom OKC Social Squad t-shirt and a $50 gift card to A Good Egg Dining Group restaurants. Amberfay Malbrough came in second place with 4,090 points (with two recruits) and she also received an OKC Social Squad t-shirt and a $25 gift card to A Good Egg Dining Group restaurants. And congrats to third-place winner Stacy Eads (1,230 points and one recruit), who will receive an OKC Social Squad t-shirt and $10 gift card to A Good Egg Dining Group restaurants. Honorable mention goes to Vonnie Garner with 550 points and two recruits.

“In our first month of the program, we had 189 members helping to spread the word about all of the great things going on in our city,” said Reid. “The competition for the highest point total proved to be spirited and we anticipate the excitement about OKC will spread world-wide, thanks to the reach of the social squad’s connections.”
