Chamber member TLC Garden Centers recently donated more than $64,000 to The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center’s Stephenson Cancer Center.
A total of $64,289.71 was raised to donate to the cancer center through the TLC Garden Centers’ “Plant It Pink” event in October, also known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One hundred percent of all sales on the day of the event were donated to further breast cancer research.
“We are thrilled to support breast cancer research in Oklahoma, and we’re thankful for our loyal customers who supported our efforts during ‘Plant It Pink’ day,” Frank McDonald, president of TLC Garden Centers, said.
The event was held in support of those affected by breast cancer, such as Katie Keyser, whose husband worked with TLC Garden Centers when Keyser was first diagnosed with the disease in 2018.
“TLC rallied behind us in a huge way,” Keyser said.
Keyser now works with Stephenson Cancer Center where the funds donated will be used to further breast cancer research in Oklahoma.
Stephenson Cancer Center serves as Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Cancer Center and is held in high regard nationally. The center recently made headlines for historic cancer drug developments created entirely in Oklahoma.
TLC Garden Centers is an independent nursery, greenhouse and landscape retailer based in Oklahoma City. The garden centers have been named as a top nursery retailer since the 1990s, with the mission of “Bringing People and Plants Together.”
