Urban planner speaks on the art of quality community spaces at OKCMOA

By Erick Perry / Member News / October 25, 2022

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art will host one of the nation’s most notable urban planners, Dan Biederman, on Oct. 28 as a guest speaker.

The event is in conjunction with the Greater Oklahoma City Parks & Trails Foundation and will focus on the importance of community spaces. Biederman will discuss the rejuvenation of Bryant Park in New York City, a formerly neglected space in midtown Manhattan, and how the practices applied to Bryant Park may translate into further improving Oklahoma City spaces.

“While I have not been to OKC since serving on the ULI panel on recovery from the bombing in 1995, it’s obvious that several of the city’s impressive parks are following the same path as our parks in Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and New York in adding lively programming,” Biederman said.

“The Parks and Trails Foundation was kind enough to invite me to speak to them. I’m looking forward to Friday’s breakfast.”

Biederman serves as the executive director of the Bryant Park Corporation and president of the Biederman Redevelopment Ventures Corporation, a development consulting firm that operates in 32 states and six countries. He also serves as president of the 34th Street Partnership in NYC.

The Greater Oklahoma City Parks & Trails Foundation aims to “re-inspire the relationship between city and citizen” through inspirational speaking and community development events.
