Leadership Notes: Incentive programs fuel OKC's growth and economic development

By Christy Gillenwater / Policy / March 31, 2025

As Oklahoma City continues to grow, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is working closely with Oklahoma lawmakers to renew key economic development incentive programs critical to our success. The Chamber's Government Relations team has focused its efforts on supporting programs that benefit the state's second and third-largest industries: Aerospace and Tourism.

The Aerospace Engineering Tax Credit, Tourism Development Act and Quality Events Act have been instrumental in growing the state's economy and demonstrate the value of targeted incentive programs.

Our daily mission includes recruiting new companies to our region and growing existing ones. Incentives are a critical asset in ensuring we successfully compete with other regions to drive investment, job creation and economic growth. Each year, the Chamber's legislative agenda includes incentive programs we believe provide a positive return on investment and stimulate the growth of specific industries. For example, the Aerospace Engineering Tax Credit has aided in the growth of a $44 billion industry, providing $89 for every $1 spent.

We are optimistic about the success of extending these critical programs. It's important for Oklahoma to have the economic tools necessary to remain competitive. The Chamber is committed to supporting these efforts, ensuring OKC continues to be a place where businesses and industries thrive. Together, we will build a bright future for our community.
