OKC voters approve hotel tax increase to boost tourism

Voters in Oklahoma City have approved a measure to increase the city's hotel tax from 5.5% to 9.25%, a move expected to significantly bolster tourism and help our city tell its story. The new rate, effective Oct. 1, 2024, will generate an estimated $11.6 million annually, funding efforts to attract more visitors and support large-scale events.

Visit OKC highlights tourism's role in boosting OKC's economy

A research study conducted by Tourism Economics revealed that in 2023, Oklahoma City welcomed 24.1 million visitors, resulting in an annual economic impact of $4.5 billion. The study traced how visitor spending flows through the local economy, affecting employment, wages and tax revenues. This economic activity generated $358 million in state and local taxes, effectively saving each Oklahoma City resident $1,326 in taxes they would otherwise pay.
