Following recommendations of the Vera Institute for Justice in 2015, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber began working with city and county leaders to solve overcrowding problems at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Today, overcrowding has continued trending downward, thanks in large part to diversion programs created or adopted in Oklahoma City.
These bonds would take the place of retiring bonds and could be sold without increasing the rate of property taxes for residents. “The challenges of the Oklahoma County Jail are well documented,” said Roy Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.
After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Chamber will resume its annual DC Fly-in this year on April 27-28, to provide Chamber members with an opportunity to interact one-on-one with members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation and defense leaders.
Two candidates will appear on the ballot for residents of District 5.
Four candidates filed to run in the Oklahoma City mayoral election, which will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
The United States Census Bureau in August released data from the 2020 U.S. Census revealing that the city of Oklahoma City was one of just 14 cities nationwide to add more than 100,000 people from 2010 to 2020.
Oklahoma City is making meaningful efforts to improve our streets and trail systems. Though our pedestrian- and bike-friendliness have not always been notable factors of our city’s lifestyle, things are quickly changing!
