Oklahoma City offers several excellent venues where you can dip your paddles for a morning or afternoon of kayaking or paddle boating. One location paddlers have been flocking to in recent years is Lake Overholser, a city-built reservoir located on the west side of Oklahoma City, south of Route 66.
Kids can learn to sail this summer through Chamber member RIVERSPORT OKC’s camps at Lake Hefner. Students entering the second through tenth grades are eligible to take part in the camps that range in skill levels, from beginner to advanced.

Lake Stanley Draper holds the name of one of the most iconic Oklahomans of all time. North Carolina-born Stanley Draper was formerly a teacher and a lieutenant in World War I before coming to Oklahoma City in 1919. Shortly after arriving in Oklahoma City, Draper began his career with the OKC Chamber of Commerce.
Oklahoma City may be several hours away from some of the largest lakes in the state, but that does not mean it is lacking in excellent venues from which to drop a fishing line or launch a boat or personal watercraft.
