Now, with the fourth phase of projects underway, Oklahoma City is moving towards a more comprehensive approach to addressing some of our community's modern issues.
Oklahoma City’s RIVERSPORT Rapids whitewater center has been selected by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) as the site for as many as seven international race events leading up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The series of events begins in August and joins the 2022 Pan American Canoe Slalom Championships slated for May and two other major events recently added to the Boathouse District’s 2022 calendar.
The Oklahoma City Council voted earlier this month to approve final plans and specifications for new seating at Paycom Center as a part of MAPS 4.
When the International Canoe Federation asked if RIVERSPORT would be willing to host two international events that could no longer be held in Russia, the answer was a resounding yes. The events will occur in August, and the final dates will be announced in early April.
The Convention Center has hosted 128 events that have had over 111,000 people stream through its door since Jan. 14, 2021. Official figures estimate the economic impact to be more than $15.3 million as it marks its first birthday.
