The Board of County Commissioners of Oklahoma County (BOCC) recently passed a resolution establishing a jail bond oversight committee that will “act in an advisory role to assist the BOCC with regards to best practices, professional expertise, and wise and efficient use of bond sale proceeds in all aspects of the projects for the construction of a new [Oklahoma County Detention Center], including site selection, facility design, and public transparency and accountability.”
The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is taking the lead in a campaign urging Oklahoma City voters to approve a $955 million school bond issue for Oklahoma City Public Schools on Nov. 8, a vote Chamber officials and other supporters describe as transformational for students, the district and Oklahoma City.
During a special session of the Oklahoma Legislature held Sept. 28-29, state lawmakers allocated more than $1.5 billion for 45 projects under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and another $250 million for projects under the state’s Progressing Rural Economic Prosperity (PREP) Fund. Legislators allocated $63 million for three of those projects actively supported by the Chamber.
This past August, EMBARK, which provides bus, ferry transit, bike share and downtown parking solutions in the Oklahoma City metro area, was awarded a $6.8 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to purchase new compressed natural gas (CNG) and electrical vehicles (EV) for its fleet of buses and vans.
