Oklahoma City preparing for softball championships, elite rowing events

Oklahoma City’s growing reputation as being a championship sports destination continues to grow with the International Canoe Federation’s recent announcement that the 2022 Canoe Sprint Super Cup is moving to the Oklahoma River in August. The ICF made the move in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Another event originally planned for Moscow, the 2022 ICF Stand Up Paddling World Cup, is also moving to Oklahoma City.

OKC named host to up to seven events leading to Olympic Games in LA

Oklahoma City’s RIVERSPORT Rapids whitewater center has been selected by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) as the site for as many as seven international race events leading up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The series of events begins in August and joins the 2022 Pan American Canoe Slalom Championships slated for May and two other major events recently added to the Boathouse District’s 2022 calendar.

When the International Canoe Federation asked if RIVERSPORT would be willing to host two international events that could no longer be held in Russia, the answer was a resounding yes. The events will occur in August, and the final dates will be announced in early April.

Outlook for holiday shopping season looks positive, officials say

As of this writing, there are about 50 shopping days left until Christmas, and for some retailers, that period can sometimes mean the difference between staying open or closing for good since a majority of their yearly sales come during the holidays. But if Oklahoma City’s sales tax collections are any indication, 2021 could end up being the gift that just keeps on giving for Oklahoma City retailers, both large and small.
